Place for 20-40 action!, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 Written by pokerbrat Cardroom Quality: The 20-40 action here is unreal. I went on a Tuesday and there were 4 games at that limit. $1000 pots are fairly common.
Player Level: There are some very tough players but there's enough loose players to make the game very beatable. Weekend action of course if probably the best. Dealers: Dealers are not what they used to be. I've noticed a lot of turnover in the past few years compared with years past but they're ok. Food and Drink: The food is average but I'm not going here to eat anyways. Management: They probably have the best floor people in the business. All have years of experience and the rulings will be consistent.

Always lots of action and variety at Lil's, Friday, 17 August 2007 Written by AdRock This is one of the few places where you can consistently find a game other than small stake limit hold 'em. 8/16 is the default game, though you can usually find a 4/8 game after noon; I usually see Omaha and 20/40 LHE on a regular basis. Cardroom Quality: A nice room and in good shape. The tables have auto shufflers. There's a big desk where you check in and the wait list makes it easy to see what games are running and how long the list is.
Player Level: Diamond Lil's is known for having some of the toughest competition in town. You'll find some fish here, but you'll also run into some pretty tough players. The Sunday tournaments have a solid turnout of experienced tournament players. Dealers: Solid, experienced, reasonably friendly. Can't think of a bad dealer who works here. Food and Drink: Food quality is adequate at best. They once had a promo where you got free steak and lobster for trip kings; was worth just a shade more than I paid for it. I'd never stop in the restaurant just to eat. Service is spotty -- before the Sunday tournaments I never seem to be able to find someone to take my drink order. Management: They do a really good job with their tournaments and getting games going and keeping them full. The Sunday tournaments used to sell out 90 minutes before the start and people were reselling spots in the parking lot. They cracked down on reselling (they take your name when you sign up) and raised the entry fee $20, and now it sells out 15-30 minutes before if at all. The tournament also has a great structure with blinds that start small (one 25 chip) and increase very slowly. Extras: Free buffet before Saturday and Sunday tournaments. Free breakfast to early morning players during the week. They have an ever changing variety of high hand, quads, and other promotions that other places don't have. They have a bad beat jackpot for hold 'em and Omaha. While it spreads the winning around, I believe it's all player funded. It also requires some effort to keep up with the current "bonuses" as they've been changing them monthly.

A Serious Poker Room, Monday, 30 July 2007 Written by perryiv Cardroom Quality: Nine poker tables, generally a full range of structured hold'em from 4-8 to 20-40 and one Omaha 8 6-12 with a kill. It has the serious poker room feel of players coming to play and finding lively games to match their expectations.
Player Level: A substantial population of experienced players, a steady flow of drop-in traffic, and many talented younger players. Dealers: A competent, agreeable, and knowlegeable crew. Food and Drink: Has, some say, "fallen off." Management: Attentive to the cardroom. Seating and moves are efficiently handled. Floor rulings are more-or-less consistent. Players' names are quickly memorized and responses to needs and requests are personable. A professionally, but not coldly run cardroom. Extras: The normal spread of player-financed promotions--bad beat jackpots, high hands, regular tournaments, silly give-aways. "Comps" is not recognized vocabulary.
